Grace Period Voting

To register or change address in Grace period after the close of registration, a voter must:

  • Have lived in his/her precinct 30 days prior to the election; i.e. voter must have moved before 30 days prior to election.
  • Appear in person at the correct election authority for his/her residential address – for City of Bloomington residents, in this office only during office hours, or at the correct polling place or office on Election Day.
  • Present two IDs, one of which must show the voter’s current address.
  • Apply for ballot and vote at the same time.

Grace period extends through Election Day so voters may register to vote or change their address in person at the polling place for their address, or the office. Voters, you will need, and don’t forget to bring, two documents of identification to show:

  1. Who you are—BOTH MUST SHOW YOUR NAME
  2. Where you live—ONE MUST SHOW YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS

Please be ready to show these documents when registering or changing your address at the polling place or office. Some examples of accepted identification are:

  • Illinois Driver’s License or Illinois State ID
  • ID from employer, school or government agency
  • Passport or US Military ID card
  • Credit card or debit card
  • Social Security, Medicare or Public Aid card
  • Civic, union or professional association membership card
  • Illinois FOID card
  • Vehicle registration card
  • Lease, mortgage or deed to house
  • Mail—examples of mail addressed to voter: Bill from medical provider, insurance or utility company; Bill, transcript or report card from school; Bank statement, pay stub or pension statement; Official mail from government agency
